#1 Discovery has never been so much fun ...

Welcome to PLCMC's Learning 2.0 program & blog. Chances are if you've found your way here you're either:
Either way… I'm glad you're here!!
Learning 2.0 is online learning program that encourages staff to learn more about emerging technologies on the web that are changing the way people, society and libraries access information and communicate with each other.
Over the course of the next eight and a half weeks, this website will highlight “23 Things” and discovery exercises to help staff become familiar with blogging, RSS news feeds, tagging, wikis, podcasting, online applications, and video and image hosting sites.
To familiarize yourself with this project, be sure to read the About page. The FAQs should answer most of your questions about this program. If not, then please add your question to the FAQ page as a comment.
So fasten your seat belts, grab your mouse and get ready for a discovery adventure… and remember, it's OK to play in the library and have fun!
Be sure to tune in Monday, August 7th for the next "thing" or discovery item ... or better yet, subscribe to the RSS feed.

- a member of PLCMC's staff who's participating in the Learning 2.0 Challenge.
- interested in learning about and playing around (yes, playing is allowed in libraries) with some new web 2.0 tools that will help you expand your information literacy toolbox.
- or - - are just interested in earning a cool USB MP3 player and possibility winning a new laptop and more!

Either way… I'm glad you're here!!

I can't wait to learn about some of these very cool web tools and resources. I can't say enough good things about LibraryThing - it's awesome and I'm so glad to see PLCMC making all of this accessible to staff and others, too.
The MP3 player is just icing on a very sweet cake!

This is new and great for me. I am hoping to get more insight and information from staff who are vegetarians. What are some quick tasty meals?
By

I think this will be incredible fun. I've already persuaded another staff member they need to take part. This should be great!

one quick thing:
Can we change the Intranet page (http://intranet.plcmc.org/tools/learning20/ ) to make the Peoplesoft ID number easier to look up? As it is I'm having to find the number on the Core Competencies page and paste it in here.

This is such a good idea to keep us learning about new technology. It is a really good opportunity

I'm so glad you made this site. I came to know of this through Server Side's Card Mkt newsletter which has been referring to Web 2.0 forever, but, not really giving a lot of information about it.

I am glad that you put all new technologies on this one web site for people to experiment and contribute to the organisations and communities. That's great!!! I have tried some eg youtube, flickr, blogs etc. I am sure to participate in the learning programme and will organise for my work as well. We have a team in the library to achieve this. You have done well. Thank you.

I am a guest intending to work through the 23 things. This such a great help to all of us in the hinterlands who have been wondering what 2.0 is about. Thanks.
By

If we give them (our students) wings, they will learn to fly. But we have to be willing to use them first, to lead them to the edge, to throw open the door, and to let them go. (I'm scared of heights, so think how much fun this is for me - a true 'leap of faith').
By
Anonymous, at 8:06 AM
We're going to start this soon!
By

I began Learning 2.0 at home with a 56k modem. I quickly found out that slow modems are not adequate for these lessons, so here I am at my local PL. See, I'm not only learning new things, but I'm also visiting the library this afternoon!
By

I'm a guest and a student of library science. I'm very excited about going through the 23 things. I'm sure to impress my professor. Thank you for making it available to us.
By

It is great the library is doing this. I already wiki and blog, but I don't know enough about RSS. Looking forward to this great opportunity! The more the staff knows about these things, the better we can serve the public.
And the MP3 player sounds good, too!
