Welcome to the original Learning 2.0 Program. This site was created to support PLCMC's Learning 2.0 Program; a discovery learning program designed to encourage staff to explore new technologies and reward them for doing 23 Things. Since the program's launched, it has fostered Learning 2.0 programs all over the world. If you are interested in duplicating or modifying this program for your organization, please see Program Notes on About Page and contact Helene Blowers for information.

#1 Discovery has never been so much fun ...

Listen to this podcast [1:53]-->powered by ODEO

Welcome to PLCMC's Learning 2.0 program & blog. Chances are if you've found your way here you're either:
  1. a member of PLCMC's staff who's participating in the Learning 2.0 Challenge.
  2. interested in learning about and playing around (yes, playing is allowed in libraries) with some new web 2.0 tools that will help you expand your information literacy toolbox.
    - or -
  3. are just interested in earning a cool USB MP3 player and possibility winning a new laptop and more!

Either way… I'm glad you're here!!

Learning 2.0 is online learning program that encourages staff to learn more about emerging technologies on the web that are changing the way people, society and libraries access information and communicate with each other.

Over the course of the next eight and a half weeks, this website will highlight “23 Things” and discovery exercises to help staff become familiar with blogging, RSS news feeds, tagging, wikis, podcasting, online applications, and video and image hosting sites.

To familiarize yourself with this project, be sure to read the About page. The FAQs should answer most of your questions about this program. If not, then please add your question to the FAQ page as a comment.

So fasten your seat belts, grab your mouse and get ready for a discovery adventure… and remember, it's OK to play in the library and have fun!

Be sure to tune in Monday, August 7th for the next "thing" or discovery item ... or better yet, subscribe to the RSS feed.

The MP3 player is just icing on a very sweet cake!

  • one quick thing:

Can we change the Intranet page (http://intranet.plcmc.org/tools/learning20/ ) to make the Peoplesoft ID number easier to look up? As it is I'm having to find the number on the Core Competencies page and paste it in here.

I have tried some eg youtube, flickr, blogs etc. I am sure to participate in the learning programme and will organise for my work as well. We have a team in the library to achieve this. You have done well. Thank you.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:04 AM

  • If we give them (our students) wings, they will learn to fly. But we have to be willing to use them first, to lead them to the edge, to throw open the door, and to let them go. (I'm scared of heights, so think how much fun this is for me - a true 'leap of faith').

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:06 AM

  • We're going to start this soon!

By Blogger Blogteam, at 1:19 PM

  • I began Learning 2.0 at home with a 56k modem. I quickly found out that slow modems are not adequate for these lessons, so here I am at my local PL. See, I'm not only learning new things, but I'm also visiting the library this afternoon!

By Blogger Larry, at 12:59 PM

  • I'm a guest and a student of library science. I'm very excited about going through the 23 things. I'm sure to impress my professor. Thank you for making it available to us.

By Blogger AJohnson, at 9:01 PM

  • It is great the library is doing this. I already wiki and blog, but I don't know enough about RSS. Looking forward to this great opportunity! The more the staff knows about these things, the better we can serve the public.

And the MP3 player sounds good, too!
